  49. │    Well, after about a million IRC messages, a long night of debugging     │
  50. │    and the help of countless anonymous testers, I finally nailed down      │
  51. │    what has been causing so many people problems in GPL. Apparently,       │
  52. │    the game's installer actually adds some system services to your         │
  53. │    registry (that's what those .SYS files were), and special registry      │
  54. │    entries have to be made to force the services to load.                  │
  55. │                                                                            │
  56. │    Whew. Enough already...enjoy the game, and my humble apologies to       │
  57. │    those who had the game crash on them.                                   │

  60. │                       Rip & Installation Information                       │

  62. │    To apply the fix, simply unzip this archive into your GPL directory,    │
  63. │    and run SETUP.EXE. The appropriate registry entries will be created,    │
  64. │    and the two system services (PAPYCPU.SYS and PAPYJOY.SYS) will be       │
  65. │    copied to the proper location.                                          │
  66. │                                                                            │
  67. │    After SETUP is complete, you MUST reboot in order to have the new       │
  68. │    services load...if you don't reboot, it won't work. =)                  │

  73. │     P.S. Any "class" act that would have you believe that the new disk     │
  74. │     limit of 90 disks (as accepted by the majority of the existing SPA     │
  75. │     group leaders) is simply for the purpose of allowing sub-standard      │
  76. │     crackers and rippers to release, has completely missed the point.      │
  77. │                                                                            │
  78. │     The new limit of 90 disks is designed to allow games to be more        │
  79. │     full-featured in their base package, so that games do not have to      │
  80. │     chopped into addons, solely for the purpose of going under 75          │
  81. │     disks. The extra 15 disks of space allows things such as music to      │
  82. │     be included in a base release, adding to the overall quality and       │
  83. │     playability of the game. Modern developers are using the CD-ROM        │
  84. │     space more and more for actual game data, rather than bloating         │
  85. │     games with unnecessary movies as it was in the beginning. The          │
  86. │     vast majority of modern 3D games contain large amounts of raw          │
  87. │     textures...so the simple question is, do we make the game less         │
  88. │     playable and rip out these features? Or raise the disk limit to        │
  89. │     accomodate the trend of data "inflation"? The answer, for any          │
  90. │     quality-minded individual is obvious.                                  │
